Gaining Control Over Panic Attacks

By Laura Gregory

The physical signs of a panic attack can be so uncomfortable and usually terrifying. The symptoms may not really harm you physically, but the feelings of panic can really ruin your day. The actual experience can be more severe from one person to the next but attacks can lead to shortness of breath, sweating and a lack of control.

So what should you do to cope with these attacks and keep them from happening?

I cannot recommend this program highly enough…

‘Panic Away’ is a superb program designed to help those countless sufferers from anxiety in all its forms. I found Barry Mc Donagh’s approach to the treatment of panic attacks and phobias in particular to be a refreshing one – simple, practical and easy to use. I cannot recommend this program highly enough to anyone trapped in the ‘fear of fears’ that panic attacks and phobias generate. His approach to embracing anxiety in all its form is one I completely agree with and I would be happy to recommend unequivocally this program to anyone with anxiety

It’s important to know that other people usually suffer from anxiety attacks too. And keep in mind that some people only experience a single anxiety attack instead of the chronic attacks other people experience.

Panic attacks can affect everybody

The first step in tackling this is to try to understand what may be causing your panic attacks. Maybe changes in your lifestyle have affected you more significantly than you realize. As an example, losing a loved one or breaking up with a significant other are big events which we may appear to address well. But feelings that are repressed sooner or later come out. For instance, we oftentimes do not experience strong grief until sometime after the death of a loved one.

It usually helps to seek the help of a professional counselor when you need to discover why you are experiencing symptoms. It is important to learn strategies of dealing with panic attacks and their after effects. Because one of the main panic attack symptoms is shallow breathing, learning breathing exercises can help you to regulate this. Stress management and breathing methods can help you when you feel a panic attack coming up and can even help to reduce its severity.

Make sure you see your doctor if you find that panic attacks are becoming a problem for you. But bear in mind that you can use natural methods to help you as well. Herbal cures, vitamin and mineral supplements could help. By educating yourself in natural ways of healing, you’ll observe that you feel more in control of your life which in turn can help you to feel better.

Don’t be discouraged about your situation because you may be able to overcome future panic attacks. Also, if you can find others to support you, this can help to quicken your recovery and you may discover you have the knowledge to help others later on.
